Assistant Controller

Full time, exempt

This position provides general oversight to the accounting team under the supervision of a Controller. Performs duties with a great eye for detail, while being adaptable and able to carry out tasks autonomously and collaboratively. Throughout the process, also keeping the accounting and financials up to standard and ensure accurate financial reporting and control.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises and trains Senior Accountant
  • Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with GAAP
  • Assist in the oversight of month end closing process, including oversight of month journal entries, invoices etc. and oversee reconciling accounts for the monthly or annual closing
  • Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices
  • Assist with internal audits and partnership audits in order to maintain compliance with partnerships
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts
  • Participate in preparation for the annual audit and tax regulation work
  • Help in the development of reports for management or regulatory bodies
  • Review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances
  • Assist the controller with a variety of tasks as needed
  • Assist in special projects as requested by management

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or relevant field
  • Minimum of 6+ years progressive experience
  • Professional certification (CPA) is a plus

Required Skills and/or Qualifications

  • Proven experience in progressive roles or other similar position
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations
  • NetSuite experience is a plus, general ERP experience is preferred
  • Understanding of fund accounting/class tracking
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, month end closure, reporting etc.)
  • Understanding of data analysis, budgeting and forecasting
  • Highly competent in Microsoft Excel
  • Well‐organized with ability to prioritize, problem solve and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly motivated and have the desire to learn and advance
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills along with excellent verbal and written communication skills

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
